Risperdal Consta

Risperdal Consta is a drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Some of the side effects can include difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue or face, uncontrollable movements of the tongue, face, arms, legs or lips, fever, sweating, confusion, irregular heart beat, and severe muscle stiffness. If you present these symptoms you should call your doctor, as there could be fatal side effects. Some other reactions that can be discussed with your doctor to reconsider the doses include insomnia, nausea, weight gain, blurred vision, headache or dizziness.

Experts are not sure exactly how Risperdal Consta relieves bipolar symptoms, but they know it really helps to relieve them. It can be administered as a stand-alone drug or in connection with other mood stabilizers. However, if you are taking this drug you must not drive or operate any machinery. You should not drink any alcoholic beverage as it helps to increase dizziness and drowsiness. Risperdal Consta may increase the risk of heat stroke as well. Illness such as bipolar disorder involves chemical imbalances of the brain known as serotonin and dopamine and this medication helps to balance them.

Risperdal Consta is not for everyone. If you have developed diabetes, liver or kidney disease, epilepsy, breast cancer, heart attack or any other heart disease you must talk to your doctor about it. If you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant while being under a treatment, you should also talk to your doctor about it. This medication must be taken with just water, not tea or sodas. It can also been taken without food or milk. Before you change your doses, take additional medication or even vitamins or stop taking Risperdal Consta, you have to talk to your doctor.

Risperdal Consta can be taken in two forms - pills or injections. The benefit of the injection is that it must be taken once every two weeks while the pills must be taken every day.
