When we are born we immediately get our human rights. Every one of us has human rights to help us to face daily life and ensure we are not subjected to unfair circumstances. However, not all of us know about these rights and not all of us fight for those rights. We, as humans and people, have the right to be treated equally, it doesn’t matter what gender, religion, age, sexual preference or abilities we have.

Sometimes discrimination even occurs in your own house. Some cultures don’t allow woman to work or study, while some other cultures don’t allow them to talk or vote.

Today there are a lot of situations than can be considered as discrimination, but just what is illegal discrimination? Well, in order to consider an act illegal discrimination it must be some act that is violating your rights based on your religion, race, color, creed, national origin, sex, marital status, disability, age, sexual orientation or family status.

Some of the illegal discrimination can take place at public accommodations, public services, in employment, in housing or rental properties, in education and some other places. When race, creed, color, sex, disability, age or any of the above reasons specified is the cause of a facility or service being denied, your rights are being violated and that’s an example of illegal discrimination.

For instance, if a public, private, or commercial educational institution fails to ensure physical and program access for persons who have disabilities, they are discriminating against these people. Another example of illegal discrimination is when you try to buy or rent a house and the owner or agent refuses to sell or rent because of your religion beliefs, race, color, sex, sexual preference or any of these reasons. If they use discriminatory advertising, applications or treat people differently in the terms or conditions of the sale or rental of property this is also discrimination.

There are many ways to violate human rights and we have the right to make sure we don’t suffer from any kind of discrimination.
