It is true that all human being have human rights, however not all of us can enjoy them. Some countries and cultures don’t allow women to work, talk or dress as they want. Some of these cultures find this way of life correct, but thanks to the freedom in other countries we have laws to make our human rights validated.
One of our human rights is to enjoy fair employment practices, but even when we have laws to support this right some companies don’t follow these legislations.
In the United States, the Fair employment Practice Committee was established in 1941 and it was created to promote the elimination of discriminatory practices. In 1964 the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission was created as well to make a change in discrimination in employment.
With these and other laws, most of us are protected against almost any kind of discrimination in our work place. And I say most of us; because there are some states and countries where they don’t have laws to support gays and lesbians against discrimination or harassment yet, even when there have been great changes in the past years regarding this situation.
All of us should be able to enjoy fair employment practices which mean that none of us should suffer any kind of discrimination because of our color, race, religion, age, gender, or sexual preference.
We all have the right to be treated equally and have the same benefits, rights and obligations. We should all have the same right to apply for the same position without being considered different and just to be judged with the skills to develop that position and have the same salary if we are doing the same job.
Salary must be based on the position or skills we have and not on our race, gender or color.
