If you apply for a job and your benefits or obligations vary from others based on your age, gender, sex, sexual preference, race, color, religion or disability, you are an object of discrimination.
Some companies still base their salaries and benefits depending on who they are hiring even when it is illegal. Some examples of this kind of discrimination include when promotions are just given to a determined sex, some companies just promote men to higher levels positions or they pay less to women than men for the same position.
Some times companies ask questions in their applications about religion, age, gender, marital status and this could be considered as discrimination as well. When you apply for a job they must make a decision based on your abilities and skill to perform the position without considering whether you are a man or a woman, if you are white or black, if you believe in God or Buddha, or if you are single or married.
Every year the situation regarding gays and lesbians is developing for a better work environment for them as in some states is now illegal not to hire or make any other kind of discrimination for those who have different sexual preferences.
Nowadays we all should all be able to enjoy good and fair treatment in our work place. We all have the same rights and we must fight for our right to be treated equally.
It is true that we are different in abilities and personalities, however when applying for a job or a promotion we should be judged for our skills to accomplish the job not to be judged for our race, color, religion, gender or sexual preference.
