Discrimination Based On Age

Discrimination Based On Age Related Information:

There are a lot of types of discrimination, and discrimination based on age can have a big impact on people’s lives as much as any other type of discrimination. Being discriminated against because you are too old or not old enough for something may or may not be an illegal discrimination depending on the state or country where it takes place.

Laws vary in each country and state; however there must be certain parameters to know that you are not being discriminated against. For example, if because of your age you are being treated differently than others or receiving fewer benefits than others doing the same job at your work place, they are violating your human rights.

Some employers discriminate in hiring, firing, wage benefits, hours worked, and availability of overtime based on age and that means that they could be prosecuted.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967(ADEA) is a law which protects employees or job applicants against any kind of discrimination based on their individual age. For example, if an individual is discriminated against because of his/her age with respect to any term, condition, or privilege of employment, including hiring, firing, promotion, layoff, compensation, benefits, job assignments, and training.

Some other examples of discrimination based on age include preventing any person from using University facilities or services because of their age, making an unwelcome environment or making it hostile for a person because of their age, and denying them any educational program based on age.

People must be considered equally when we talk about human rights and we all should have the freedom and the right to fight for our benefits and obligations as individuals in this world. We must be chosen for a job or a position because of our skills and not because of our race, age, gender, sexual preference or religion. Some countries are working really hard to provide these standards to their people, however there are still a lot of countries were people are not treated equally and certain groups, such as women and kids are considered as inferior.
