Feather Beds Related Information:

After a tiring day at work, when you are reaching home, thoughts usually stray to a nice dinner and then to your comfortable beds. At times the only thing we think of is a good night’s sleep. For which, a bed is very necessary. A bed and more importantly the mattress for the bed should be the kind that induces good sleep and not one which keeps you tossing and turning all night. Finding a good quality bed can sometimes be a challenge from all the different types on the market today. The various kinds of beds available include coir beds, spring beds, foam beds, water beds, and many more with varying sizes, firmness, softness, and uses. Of the numerous varieties of beds on offer, one type is also the feather beds.

Feather beds are the ultimate in softness and luxury. Sleeping on a feather bed is akin to sleeping on clouds. A feather bed can make you feel really pampered and more importantly, sleeping on a feather bed can make you feel well rested in the mornings. Consider the following aspects of a feather bed before buying one:

Filling: As the name suggests, feather beds are filled with feathers. The fill should be a mix of goose down and goose feathers. The filling determines the softness of a feather bed.

Distribution: The filling in the feather beds should be distributed evenly. If this is not so then you can have spots on the bed which are too firm if the filling in that spot is too packed, or you could have some really threadbare areas where there is hardly any filling. A good idea would be to lie on the feather bed and test it before buying.

Stitching: Feather beds are stitched in places to keep the filling from moving and lumping in certain areas. Check to see if it is a channel type stitching or box type. The box type stitching provides the most even distribution of the filling.

Extras: Some manufacturers also give additionals such as feather bed protectors, feather bed covers, and mattress pads along with feather beds. Ask to see if you can get these with your feather bed.

Feather beds also come in many different types. Some of these are:

Traditional Bag Feather Beds: These are perfect for people who love to be surrounded by feathers. It has 5% goose down and 95% small goose feathers.

Channel Baffle: These have the baffles sewn in a vertical style. This prevents any sideways movement of the fill.

Down Topped Feather beds: These have an added layer of down on top of the regular baffled feather beds. For amazing comfort and added luxury.

Baffle Box: The box type baffles provide the best allocation of fill and removes possibility of any movement. The baffle box supreme is a better version of the baffle box design and is the ultimate in lavishness.

Horizontal Baffle: This style has baffles stitched horizontally, with the most filling in the center portion and little lesser in the head and feet positions.

Hypoallergenic Feather Beds: Made from natural materials for the top for people who have allergies. E.g. Primaloft feather beds, 100% cotton twill feather beds.
