If you want to make your film festival a success, you have to get out there and promote your festival. There are many ways to do this, but the main thing is to let the public know that your festival will be coming up. First of all, start with local advertising. Make up posters of your festival and put them in prominent places all over your city or town. Most places will let you post them in their place of business for free. Then, go visit your local radio station. This is a wonderful way to get the news of your festival out to the masses. If possible you might try to get a spot on one of the radio talk shows for your promotion and have the various hosts mention it during other broadcasts during the day.

Visit your local television station and see what they have to offer to help your promotion. If you can afford it, run an ad on TV or try and get an interview on your local cable channel to discuss the festival and what it’s all about. Sometimes local channels will do this to just have a fill in between shows.

If you have some entries that are sure-fire winners, maybe you could hint towards the quality of the films that will be seen in your festival this year. It is very important that you get the word out to the public. You may have to be aggressive with the promotion of your festival and you will be surprised how well it can work for you.

Use the Internet to send e mails to all the other festival companies that might be interested in your festival. Visit other film festivals and talk to those in attendance telling them of your upcoming event. Send out invitations to the influential people in the filmmaking business. Buyers are always interested in new material and producers are always looking for the next big hit.
