All of these websites link into the big 3 bureaus though. Although they advertise opportunities to view your credit score for free, it actually isn’t.

One of the most popular ways to get a free credit score is when you sign up for a 30 day trial of credit reporting. In order to receive this trial period you need to enter a valid credit card and usually pay a fee for the month of service. After the month has expired you have the option to renew or cancel depending on how you liked the first month.

  • Consumer fraud

So in order to receive a free credit score from a company you need to sign up for other services. The company will then quickly give you your free credit score either online or via regular mail. It’s a quick and cheap way to find out where you are with your credit and determine if there are any problems. The free credit score is not truly free, but is more of a bonus for purchasing other services from one of these 3 major credit bureaus.

Don’t be fooled regarding these online services, you will pay at least a small fee for other services. If you’re lucky enough you can look around and find a better deal that offers services for prices less than $10 US.
