Lauren Bacall Related Information:

Lauren Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske on September 16th 1924 in New York to middleclass parents. When she was five years old, Lauren’s parents divorced. Whilst at school, young Lauren harbored desires to become a dancer, but she then decided that perhaps acting was a more exciting option and decided to opt for this instead. After she finished school, she enrolled at the New York American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Also, after finishing school, Lauren did a little modeling, and she ended up on the cover of a hugely popular US magazine, Harper's Bazaar. As luck would have it, she was spotted by the wife of a prominent director on the cover of the magazine, and was called in to do a screen test. This proved successful, and her first role was opposite Humphrey Bogart in the 1944 thriller ‘To Have or Not To Have’. She went on to marry Bogart in 1945.

Lauren went on to star in many other movies over the years, many with her husband Humphrey Bogart. Her films included: ‘The Big Sleep’, ‘Confidential Agent’, ‘Dark Passage’, ‘Key Largo’ and ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’. She starred opposite other big names as well as her husband, such as Marilyn Monroe, Gary Cooper, and Betty Grable.

After Bogart died in 1957, Lauren continued to make movies, including ‘The Gift of Love’, ‘Shock Treatment’ and ‘Harper’. She continued to star and take smaller roles in many movies and even through the 1990s was to be seen in popular movies such as ‘Misery’ and ‘My Fellow Americans’.
