Doris Day was born Doris Mary Ann Von Kapplehoff on April 3rd 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Though Doris came from a broken home, she was a happy child and loved to dance. Doris’ dream as a child was to dance in the ballet, but unfortunately her dreams would come to an abrupt halt as the result of an automobile accident. But Doris still had spirit and she began to concentrate on her singing, playing with local bands whenever the opportunity arose.
In the late 1940s, life was not looking too good for Doris after two failed marriages, but fortune would smile on her when her agent convinced her to take a screen test. Warner Brothers Studio liked what they saw and signed Doris to a contract, and in 1948 her first feature film was released, “Romance On the High Seas.”
In the 1950s Doris Day’s career took of and she starred in several movies, it was during this time that she met and wed Marty Melcher. In the 1960s, Doris was forced to slow her pace some due to exhaustion. After her husband’s death in 1968, Doris Day never again appeared on the silver screen, but did sign a contract for the Doris Day Show. By this time Doris Day was nearly bankrupt but was awarded 22 million dollars in a court case.Doris Day married for the fourth time in 1976, this marriage lasting only until 1980. Doris founded the Doris Day Animal Foundation in California and today she and her son Terry own an Inn in California.
