The Northern Territory is a federal territory of Australia. The Northern Territory residents are known simply as Territorians. It is a land of contrasts, rich with striking scenery from lush rainforest to avid red plains. The natural beauty of the Northern Territory has to be seen to be believed. The Northern Territory is twice the size of California, but is inhabited by fewer than 200,000 people. It draws tourists because it forms the backdrop for adventure on a grand scale, hot-air ballooning, bushwalking, four-wheel drive safaris, cameo rides, all accessible on good roads and from bases with quality accommodation.
The capital city is Darwin. Darwin has seen some hard times, but is now a bustling center set in a stunning environment. Looking out over Darwin harbor at a sultry sunset is relaxing weather from a chic harbor-side restaurant or the deck of a yacht.
A special activity that is unique to Darwin and one of its biggest tourist attractions is Aquascene. Here hundreds of fish come to shore to be hand fed. Catfish, bream and mullet are the most common to take part. This occurs between August and December. Visitors are encouraged to wade in knee deep among the small fish and take part in this remarkable act of nature.
Uluru is a large rock formation in the Northern Territory -the second-largest monolith in the world. The rock is made of sandstone infused with minerals that reflect the red light of sunrise and sunset making it appear to glow. Rising from a flat expanse of dusty plans is the remarkable Uluru. This huge red rock is fascinating to behold and tends to humble visitors. Looking at this ancient monolith is like looking back on millions of years of earth's evolution and a little bit of the spiritual connection with the land can be felt by all who visit it.
