The cooking done by the early inhabitants uses the same recipes today, but has much more flavor to it.

With the influx of immigrants to Australia, the cuisine is more sophisticated and diverse. One similarity in all the food is that it is basically low-salt and low-fat making it very healthy dishes with lots of meat and vegetables. There is an abundance of Asian food, such as Japanese, Vietnamese Thai and Malay. You will also find Middle Eastern food on the menus, such as braised goat with cous cous.

You will also find some indigenous food on the menus, such as chilli kangaroo tail and lemon myrtle linguine. Some of the wild foods of Australia include bunya nuts and Kakadu plums and the meats include kangaroo, crocodile and buffalo.

The many wineries throughout Australia mean that you can order the local wines no matter where you go. The wines range from fruity reds to sparkling whites and have won many International awards. The largest wine producers in the country and the top brands include:

The most successful wine in Australia is at Jacob’s Creek. However, you can take a wine tour of Australia, either guided or self-guided to visit all of the wineries in a state. If you want to visit all the wineries in the country you will have to take a long vacation. A must see is the winery at Lake Clare, the only one in the country run by a religious order.
